Maata Privacy Policy
Maata ("we") provides free voice calls, video calls and messaging. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
What we collect
- Account: your name, mobile number and a securely hashed password.
- Contacts: numbers you save in Maata. If you choose to sync or import phone contacts, numbers are only checked against Maata users; the full list stays on your device.
- Messages and files: chats, photos, videos, voice messages and documents you send are stored on our servers so they can be delivered and shown on your devices. Maata is not end-to-end encrypted. Disappearing and view-once messages are deleted as described in the app.
- Calls: calls connect directly between devices or through our media server; we keep call history (who, when, how long), not call audio or video. If you use live call translation, speech is sent to Google Cloud to be transcribed and translated.
- Status, channels, communities, business profile, catalogue and ads you create.
- Location: only when you choose to share a location or take a GPS photo.
- Maata AI: questions you send to Maata AI, text you ask it to rewrite, and (if a business turns on AI auto-reply) customer messages to that business are sent to Google Gemini to create answers.
- Device data: login times, approximate device type, and a notification token so we can alert you about messages and calls.
How we use it
To deliver messages and calls, keep accounts secure, prevent spam and abuse, review reports, and improve Maata. We do not sell your personal data. We do not show ads based on your chats.
Who we share it with
Service providers that run Maata for us: Render (hosting), MongoDB Atlas (database), Cloudflare (domain and file storage), Google (notifications, translation, speech, Gemini AI), and LiveKit (group call media, if enabled). We may share data when required by Indian law.
Your choices
- Block or report anyone; control who sees your status.
- Delete messages, chats or your status at any time.
- Delete your account: in the app go to ⋮ → Settings → Delete my account, or visit maataapp.com/delete-account. Your account, messages, statuses, products and files are deleted from our active systems.
Children
Maata is not intended for children under 13.
